#2 Why We <3 Brussels

BRUSSELS PREVIEW – on July 13 we will release a series of 2 poster magazines dedicated to Brussels. 200,000 copies of them. Stay tuned for a list of stockists – copies will be all over the UK and Spain, with the odd copy making its way to Berlin and Paris. Every day over the next 4 weeks we will feature a small post on the city – no mankenpis, no chips.

Special thanks: Office de Promotion du Tourisme Wallonie-Bruxelles, with the support of Brussels International Tourism & Congress.

#3 Freakum Dress

Charles is one of the models in our nightlife photoshoot. He just opened his first boutique with Maria Salerno, just above Mandarina Duck. Charles describes their style as rock chick (they only do womenswear). Charles’ influences include the 80s and clean masculine lines. Maria’s style is more glamourous. Best of luck.

#4 Summerclub

Something for the weekend. Everyone’s mourning Dirty at Mirano but the Dirty/Anarchic team is at superclub K-Nal throughout summer for Summerclub, a series of weekend club nights. Every Thursday is Juke-Box. Friday is Donna Summer. Saturday is Good Life. Evenings start with summer drinks and bbq/restaurant on the terrace by the canal (1800-2200) and the club lasts until 0400.

#5 Los Ninos

It takes a good party to get me to a club night these days but I’ve become a huge fan of Los Ninos and all the other parties that Wilfried is running in Brussels and Antwerp. The last Los Ninos party I went to invaded a metro station, with a good line up of DJs, a live act, a photo exhibition and an assortment of organic drinks. The crowd’s very mixed. Wilfried also runs Vicuna and Fingerspitzengefuhl

#6 Girls from Omsk

Valeria Siniouchkina of GIRLS FROM OMSK did the styling of our Brussels photo shoots. I am a huge fan of the label and I was delighted to discover the menswear/unisex collection featuring tee-shirts and hoodies. The Autumn/Winter collection is branded “Recession back off!”, a nice wink at the current economic climate, with a set of 80s influences. Check with them for a list of stockists but in Brussels you can find their collection at:

#7 Septante Sept

While in Brussels we came across Pierre Marino-Smette (aka Piiit), a DJ and store owner of Septante Sept, a boutique in Chatelain dedicated to young Brussels designers. Here’s a small interview:

What’s so great about Brussels? Brussels is a small capital with even smaller neighbourhoods. You can jump from one place to another, meeting different people everywhere. Rents are cheap, so is beer.
Where are the cutest men? Beauty is everywhere. You can always take a peek at the Bois de La Cambre on a sunny afternoon… And of course at my shop and parties!
Perfect night out?
Apero at the terrasse of the Supermercado, diner at Le Fils de Jules, one more drink and groovy tracks at Bar du Matin, then there’s always a good party at Café Bota Stéréo.

#8 Bruxelles-les-Bains

Bruxelles-les-Bains returns to the canal this summer, in front of the Citroen building and opposite K-nal. It was really great last summer: a sandy beach lined up with dozens of bar kiosks, many places to eat. Sunday is a good day – Smouss Café relocates there and the Love Boat open air tea dance is a riotous mix of barmen in sailor uniforms and diva anthems. 17 July – 23 August

#9 Lazy Sunday at Fontainas

It all started as a cosy DJ set on a Sunday afternoon but Lazy Sunday is fast becoming Brussels’ best way to recover from a boozy Saturday club night. Where else than at Fontainas of course, possibly the best bar in town – with its terrace overlooking the city’s open air male catwalk…

#10 Atelier Christophe Coppens

Belgian designer Christophe Coppens‘ flagship store really stands out – the huge space, neon lighting and the couture workshop at the back. For anyone who grew up wearing orange K-Way waterproof raincoats, Christophe’s menswear collection comes with a silver lining: the legendary hip pack (or is that fanny pack for our US readers?) revisited, with a slim cut, jacket length and erm more suitable colours.
